2021-08-27

Earlier this year the Federal seat of Stirling was abolished in a redistribution by the Australian Electoral Commission, and with it went the Stirling Greens Regional Group

Saturday 7th August it was time for the final goodbye. Somehow it is strange that a whole electorate should go into oblivion but this is what happened to Stirling.

We had a very lovely ending party at The Saints in Innaloo, a local pub. It was a great surprise to have three of the original Stirling members present: Kate Boland who, at one stage, was also Greens WA secretary, plus Eddie Speed and his lovely wife Maria.Stirling5

Then there was a crew of former Stirling members who are living in different electorates now and of course current Stirling members – and a good time was had by all.

We had some paraphernalia of old media releases, a lot of flyers of former Stirling candidates, some information about actions conducted under the amazing guidance of Jan Knight, who was a stalwart of the Stirling group for many years. We also had some photos of group bike rides before an election years ago and many stickers to be shared ... it was just a very lovely party of general reminiscing and catching up. Stirling 3

The Stirling Greens members are now divided into the Cowan, Curtin, Moore and Perth electorates.

Thank you to the Greens (WA) for funding this farewell and a big thanks to Katrina the Stirling convenor for organizing it. Stirling6

We would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone all the best and hope we will all catch up at some time during the next election campaign.
