The Green Issue Editors
In this issue, our co-convenors, Chilla Bulbeck and Matt Roberts, provide us with a roundup of 2017 GWA activities. A lowlight, however, was the passing of GWA stalwart Jay Birnbrauer. A highlight was the entry of Jordon Steele-John into the Senate. We have a report on a presentation by Gillian Triggs relating to her time as chairperson of the Human Rights Commission and giving her perceptions of the wider contemporary political scenario. An overview of the Australian economy is given by Carol Green, with suggestions as to more rational pathways it could follow.
A series of articles remind us that GWA and the Australian Greens are indeed linked to a global green movement. Viv Glance outlines her involvement with International Development Committee (IDC), Global Issues Group (GIG) and the Asia-Pacific Greens Federation (APGF). Nikki McLennan reports on an Alternatives to Violence Gathering in Nepal and Giz Watson describes her experiences at a Green Camp, also in Nepal. And Chris Johansen reflects on how Germany has shaped his life, and perhaps provoked his green tendencies.
We have two book reviews, one by Giz Watson reviewing Christine Milnes book, 'An Activists Life, and another by Rob Delves reviewing the saga of Roe 8 documented in 'Never Again.
From our MPs we have end of year updates from Senators Rachel Siewert and Jordon Steele-John and our Members of the WA Legislative Council Robin Chapple (Mining and Pastoral), Alison Xamon (North Metropolitan), Tim Clifford (East Metropolitan) and Diane Evers (South West).
