For those that weren’t able to get to one of the screenings of the documentary "Freo's Ten Year Turn Around", you can watch it online below.
Dr Linda Blagg put this one hour movie together on the back many, many of hours of footage she took between 2009 and 2020 largely for her PhD thesis.
The documentary is not intended to be a comprehensive history of Fremantle’s last decade but rather a study of how change happens at a city level and what is required to turn a city around.
It looks at half a dozen key stories from Amendments 38 and 49 through to the Esplanade Youth Plaza and One Day.
"I think it’s nicely put together story on what a team of people collaborating and leading can achieve – but I also appreciate I’m rather close to it so not the most impartial judge."
As I said in the documentary, is that there’s still a long way to go and with city renewal it’s always a journey in which you never actually arrive. But we’ve come a long way and we should be proud of what we have achieved together. Let me know what you think.
