Bringing environmental advocacy to the WA Parliament
By Hon Jess Beckerling, MLC
After nearly 30 years in the WA environment movement, I am convinced that we need significantly more power both in the community and the parliament to achieve the change we so urgently need.
WA’s natural environment is in serious decline, from the forests to Ningaloo, the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly severe, and yet land clearing and extractivism continue unabated and the major parties are clamouring over themselves to undermine our already inadequate nature laws.
There is so much to be done, and I am excited to get to work in my portfolio areas of Environmental Protection; Forests and Woodlands; First Nations (Regions); Animal Welfare; Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence; Water; Agriculture and Food; Women; Children; Regions and Participatory Democracy.
I am hugely grateful to all the staff and volunteers who made our state election possible and I hope our new team will do you all proud!
