Getting stuck into parliamentary business, as well as continuing to engage with the community
By Hon Jess Beckerling, MLC
It’s been a fascinating and productive month. Since we were sworn in on May 22 we have had four very full sitting weeks where we’ve negotiated good outcomes on housing and gun reform and been able to demonstrate our capacity and willingness to engage meaningfully and constructively across the chamber with a focus on achieving ambitious and sensible outcomes.
I’ve delivered my inaugural speech, asked questions on forests, water, greyhounds, family and domestic violence, sexual violence and scientific integrity and accountability surrounding the Murujuga Rock Art Report.
I’ve also visited Karratha to hear from Traditional Custodians and toured the south west forests with a focus on mining exploration and expansion applications, supported the End Forest Mining and Banksia Road rallies, had multiple media opportunities particularly on water, prescribed burning, Alcoa and the need for reform of government’s nature conservation approaches and resourcing.
