Cormann citing ‘public interest’ to deny Perth freight docs is arrogant: Ludlam

2016-04-29

The Abbott-Turnbull Government’s weakly veiled defense of ‘public interest’ to hide the Perth Freight Link business case and reasons behind the decision to announce an extra $260million to dig a tunnel under people’s homes smacks of arrogance and contempt for the WA community.
Greens co-deputy leader, Senator for WA Scott Ludlam won a senate motion on April 19, 2016 for all correspondence between ministers offices and their departments to justify the extra funding and a full business case.
But the order has been disregarded and instead Mr Ludlam received a letter from Mathias Cormann stating ‘public interest immunity’ because it would prejudice the relationship between the commonwealth and the state of WA, which is a sneaky way of hiding the truth.
“I suspect the relationship between WA and the commonwealth has long been prejudiced and damaged over this disastrous project simply because the WA community have been very clear they don’t want this project to go ahead,” said Mr Ludlam.
