Australian Greens Deputy Leader and Senator for Western Australia Scott Ludlam commented on today's announcement by WA Premier Colin Barnett of his preferred partner in his quest to destroy the Beeliar Wetlands.
"The Premier, along with Leighton holdings, appear to have learned nothing from community campaigns like James Price Point, like the response to the shark cull.
"The fight to save the Beeliar wetlands is similarly placed. Thousands of people in the impact areas, and across the region are coming out to stop the freight highway. We may yet hear that the approvals process was illegal. There's no business case. Federal funding is in jeopardy. And yet Mr Barnett stubbornly carries on.
"The question for the Premier remains the cost he's left for taxpayers to pay Leighton when this project too is cancelled. How much is Mr Barnett's hubris going to cost us this time?
