Greens back calls for investigation into Cambodia attacks

The Australian Greens have backed Human Rights Watch’s call for a full and independent investigation into attacks on opposition politicians in Cambodia, and raised grave concerns on repeated attacks on democracy in Cambodia.
“These are brazen, violent attacks against members of the Cambodian Parliament, and against democracy in Cambodia. Attempted arrests of parliamentarians, violent attacks, and deployment of paramilitary forces to raid opposition party headquarters have no place in a democratic society,” said Senator Ludlam.
“These are deeply concerning developments, which further illustrate the grievous attacks on human rights currently occurring in Cambodia.
“The Cambodian Government must work to protect and uphold the tenets of multi-party democracy, and take concrete steps to guarantee a free and safe political space, including immediately resuming open dialogue with the opposition.”
