Greens Member for South Metropolitan Lynn MacLaren MLC has criticised the State Opposition and the Barnett Government for continuing to support unnecessary development in Cockburn Sound despite fish deaths showing that the Sound is approaching ecological limits.
“It is rank hypocrisy for the Opposition to claim it cares more about health of Cockburn Sound than the Government when the Opposition supports a proposed private canal development at Mangles Bay that will further endanger the Sound’s water quality, seagrass, penguins and fish,” Ms MacLaren said.
“Amid the confusion about what caused the fish kill there is one thing certain: we must manage competing pressures on this vulnerable water body better.
