Greens call for Environment Minister to stand down

2017-01-11

The Liberal Environment Minister should stand down from his portfolio responsibilities in the wake of comments this morning that he would be comfortable with the destruction of habitat for threatened and endangered plants and animals even if Roe 8 is never built, South Metropolitan Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren has said.

Ms MacLaren said the reported comments demonstrated the Minister’s refusal to take responsibility and stand up for the precious Beeliar Wetlands.

“That the Minister for the Environment would be ‘comfortable’ with the destruction of high value bushland is demonstrates a complete failure in his responsibility to protect the environment,” Ms MacLaren said.

“This is particularly disappointing just weeks out from an election – and at a time when the community continues to do everything in its power to protect the Beeliar Wetlands.”
