Green’s rental survey reveals hardship

2016-04-22

Nearly 50 per cent of renters are spending half of their wage on rent according to preliminary feedback from the Green’s Rental Affordability Survey launched yesterday.
In the last 24 hours, 2188 people have responded to questions of rental affordability, unwarranted evictions, landlord maintenance issues and rent increases.
A renter himself, Greens housing spokesperson Senator for WA Scott Ludlam said one third of Australians are renters and the survey would provide a solid evidence base to campaign for renters rights.
“Over the years, the Greens have heard serious issues of unaffordability and renters rights and we have plan to make things easier,” he said.
“But first we want to hear exactly how people are experiencing being renters. and this survey will demonstrate how urgent it is that we turn this situation around.”

The survey will run for a couple weeks.
