Liberal policy on the run a concern weeks out from election: Greens

The Greens say the Roe 9 tunnel announcement proves Colin Barnett - on the run in the polls -  is changing his mind as often as his front bench changes.

South Metropolitan Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren said the community would be justified in wondering which way is up after the Premier threw his full weight behind a tunnel option after all but shelving it in September.

The Premier’s sidelining of the tunnel - a plan that he is now saying is the best plan ever for the state’s transport woes – led to then transport minister Dean Nalder bailing from cabinet after he didn’t get his way.

Ms MacLaren said yesterday’ announcement completely ignored the reality that Fremantle Port will reach capacity in the not too distant future.

“It doesn’t matter whether it is a tunnel or a launch pad, with the state’s financial woes, the fact is all efforts should be focused on delivering a long-term solution – the outer harbour and upgrading freight rail.

“Once again Colin Barnett refuses to acknowledge the very real concerns many people have about the path of the Perth Freight Link and the destruction of one of our most precious places, the Beeliar wetlands,” Ms MacLaren said.
