Nukes deal on Chernobyl disaster anniversary a new low

2016-04-01

To choose the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster to announce a uranium deal with the Ukraine marks a new low in the history of Australian uranium sales, the Greens said today.

"Quite rightly, the Abbott Government suspended uranium sales to Russia at the height of the Crimean crisis in 2014. It seems remarkably tone deaf to now be signing new sales agreements into the region,” Greens spokesman for Nuclear Senator for WA Scott Ludlam said.

"Australia should be at the forefront of moves to decarbonise and denuclearise global energy networks in an age of deep insecurity. Instead, as always, the Government is marching to the faltering beat of the mining industry."
