NXT deal on company tax cuts could open way for fracking in the Northern Territory: Greens

2017-04-01

"It is very concerning that Nick Xenophon's cave-in on company tax cuts includes opening up the possibility of a gas pipeline in the Northern Territory”, Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert said today.

“Such a pipeline from the Northern Territory to Queensland would create a wave of dirty, dangerous fracking in the Territory. This gas would be piped straight to Gladstone and exported.

“Traditional owners in the Territory have stood up to defend their country from fracking.  Does the government intend to disregard their wishes and open the way to fracking?

"We do not need to discuss this pipeline in the Northern Territory to Queensland. It is a dirty energy source and communities in the Northern Territory and Queensland deserve better".
