Transparency needed on how Liberal Party is storing contact details from PaTH to jobs website

2016-06-01

The Government must make it clear how the newly launched PaTH to jobs website is storing contact details and email addresses of people interested in the PaTH program, Australian Greens Senator Rachel Siewert said today.

“The PaTH to jobs website says that ‘the Minister for Employment will send information’ to employers and job seekers interested in the PaTH plan, but the site is authorised by Tony Nutt and is shown as owned by the Liberal Party.

“It is not clear whether the  contact details are being stored by the Liberal party. If this is the case, I am concerned that job seekers and businesses seeking information on a policy announced by Government may not be aware their contact details are being stored by the Liberal party.

“If in fact the website is harvesting emails for campaign reasons, I think there needs to be transparency around that. This certainly doesn’t pass the pub test.

“If the website is in fact a Government operated website, I have further questions about the launch of this website as a website registered by the Liberal Party.

“I urge the Prime Minister to make clear what the website is intended for, I don’t think this approach would be received well by the community.

“The Greens have significant concerns about the PaTH program. As I have previously said, the intern scheme could be wide open to exploitation and would struggle in a future Senate if the coalition were to pursue it post-election”.
