The Greens will tonight launch an updated version of WA 2.0, a new vision that puts Western Australian people first including a transition to clean jobs, world class public transport and addressing inequality for our most vulnerable by tackling inequality, homelessness and poverty.
First launched by Green’s Senator for WA Scott Ludlam in 2013, WA 2.0 also includes plans to transition to a fossil free-state using innovative technologies, cooling our cities and buildings, and drawing on world class urban design to make our cities more liveable.
Now for the first time, Green’s Senator for WA Rachel Siewert adds her vision in her portfolios into WA 2.0, detailing how the Greens would protect vulnerable people, ensure social justice, and look after Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Senator Siewert said WA has the second highest rate of inequality in Australia with WA richest homes earning 4.8 times more than WA’s low income earners.
“Imagine if we put people first and addressed the massive inequality that continues to grow in WA,” she said.
“The Greens have developed a framework to tackle increasing inequality and poverty, with a focus to moving to a guaranteed adequate income , universal social services and addressing increasingly insecure employment and underemployment in the city and in our regional areas.”
Greens Leader Richard Di Natale will join Senator Siewert in launching WA 2.0 in Perth tonight.
"West Australians deserve a world class transport system, an efficient clean energy grid and a fairer tax system.
"WA's Greens Senators Scott Ludlam and Rachel Siewert have been doing detailed planning and policy work for years to create this comprehensive vision that puts people first.
"Imagine affordable, connected public transport to help you get to school, work, the shops, the doctor, your sports and social activities.
"Imagine your home and the entire WA economy powered by clean energy, to drive new investment and take serious action on global warming.
"Better city design connects people, and takes pressure off our roads, land and precious natural places," he said.
