giving canberrans the SUPPORT THEY NEED, WHEN THEY NEED IT.

The Greens want Canberra to be a place where everyone can live their lives to the fullest.

That means supporting people to have choice and control, and early access to supports, to achieve their life goals.

But we need to restore confidence in the ACT’s support system. It is too often dependent on first receiving a medical diagnosis, for which there are long wait lists, and is unaffordable for thousands of Canberrans who cannot access an NDIS plan.

'It's time to think about disability differently'

DEDICATED centre for neurodiverGENCE

Every Canberran deserves to live a full and happy life.

But at the moment, thousands of people who are neurodivergent are waiting months - if not years - to get a diagnosis and the support they need to live their lives to the fullest.

That's why the ACT Greens will establish a dedicated centre that provides free information, support and assessments for people who are neurodivergent and their families.

THE ACT GREENS WILL:

  • Establish a Centre for Neurodivergence
  • Provide free advice, support, assessment and diagnosis
  • Connect peer groups with each other and with supports to improve their lives.

The Pathway to Disability Pride

Canberra is full of opportunities to celebrate the diversity of ways our bodies and minds work.

But there are too many barriers in our society that stop the one in five people who have a disability from reaching their full potential.

That’s why the ACT Greens believe in a strengths-based understanding of disability, rather than a medicalised model.

We will transform Canberra to be more accessible, inclusive for everyone to live a full, active and happy life.

THE ACT GREENS WILL:

  • Support meaningful employment that provides a liveable income
  • Fund scholarships for Canberrans to learn Auslan
  • Establish a Disability Pride Grants program
  • Establish an Early Childhood Peer Support Network
  • Ensure disability reform is led by people with disability
