Restore the Normanby Pedestrian Bridge

Tell the Queensland Government to restore the Normanby pedestrian bridge, and work with Council to ensure it’s safe and disability accessible.

Brisbane needs world-class, active transportation routes to ease congestion, and create a liveable, connected city for all.

Until recently the Normanby pedestrian bridge provided an important active transport connection between Barrambin / Victoria Park and Brisbane Girls Grammar School. Now, our community has been left with half a bridge to nowhere, because the LNP Council and Labor Queensland Government have failed to come to an agreement.

Graphic - How did we end up with half a bridge? pre-1920 OLD Gov | builds timber section of the bridge over the rail line; 2001 Council adds a new section of bridge over the Inner-Citv Bypass; 2015 Council upgrade their section; October 2022 OLD Gov closes their section of bridge for a safety review; April 2023 OLD Gov announce their section of bridge will be removed entirely; June 2023 Council releases the Masterplan for Barrambin/ Victoria Park, includina a completed Normanby pedestrian bridge, but notes it's dependent on agreement from QLD Gov; OLD Gov's section is demolished, leaving just half a bridge still standing.

Our city needs more active transport infrastructure, not less. This bridge will only become more popular given the redevelopment of Barrambin / Victoria Park and the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
