Martin Barry

Candidate for Monash City Council - University Ward

Hi, I'm Martin.

A second-generation immigrant, a postgraduate student and a renter, I am committed to building a vibrant community that supports its residents to reach their potential.

Monash deserves representatives who understand their struggles and listen. I’m standing for the Greens because students, renters, and Multicultural Australians like me need a local voice. Growing up in a regional-Victorian low-income household, I had few educational opportunities. I had to work twice as hard to overcome these barriers and support myself financially through my undergraduate studies at Monash University.

I have experience working for social good in my role with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. I live in this community, playing footy for Chadstone, meeting other dog owners at local parks, and advocating for Multicultural Australians.

As your councillor, I will build a thriving community. I will bring accountability and transparency to our local democracy, I will support genuinely affordable housing, and I will embrace Multiculturalism as the strength that it is.
