Green Issue Editorial October 2024

2024-11-06

Conflict in the Middle East expanded in recent months, with the Israeli bombing of Lebanon and heightened attrition in northern Gaza. We include an update of recent events, particularly focussing on the plight of children. Also included is an article trying to explain how this apocalyptic situation came about.

But as a respite from this world of macro-destruction, we take a look at the micro world of the microbiome – the ecology of the microbial world awaiting our further understanding. As climate change sets in, many of us wonder what we can do at household level – as it turns out, quite a lot that will both reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money.

Senator Dorinda Cox reports on attempts to establish a Federal Truth and Justice Commission. Senator Jordon Steele-John is immersing himself in campaigning as well as attending to his duties in Canberra. And Hon Brad Pettitt MLC is further disappointed by the retreat of the WA Government from climate action, but reinvigorated by a trip to the South West.
