Racism and far-right extremism in Australia is on the rise.
Neo-Nazis, far-right extremists, and white supremacists are marching across our cities publicising their hate and racist fearmongering.
Racism in this country is not new. The violent discrimination against First Nations people that started with colonialism has never stopped.
This does not happen in a vacuum. Politicians normalise and legitimise this hate, scapegoating migrants, refugees, and international students and people of colour for their failure to tackle the housing and the cost of living crises.
This has real consequences and harms the people who bear the brunt of this hate.
White supremacy, systemic racism, and far-right extremism must be tackled and dismantled.
We call on the Albanese Government to:
- Fully fund and urgently implement the National Anti-Racism Framework
- Mandate anti-racism training for all Federal MPs and Senators
- Establish a national racial discrimination and hate crimes database
- Empower and resource Australian authorities to ensure social media companies are held accountable for online hate and racism
