Australia has one of the most concentrated media markets in the world and it’s bad for our democracy.
The Murdoch media monopoly controls 70% of print publications across Australia.
This level of dominance allows them to drive the national agenda and have an enormous impact on politics in Australia. This leads to climate denialism, racist attacks and character assassinations.
At the same time, our most trusted source of news, the ABC in under attack by the Morrison Government who have cut more than $783 million from our national broadcaster since 2013.
Public interest journalism and a diverse and flourishing media sector are essential to our democracy
With your support, the Greens will:
- Take on the power of the Murdoch media monopoly through a royal commission
- Restore funding and support to our national broadcasters
- Support small, independent and emerging media outlets to ensure a strong and diverse media sector in Australia
