The US and Israel’s illegal war on Iran is sending petrol prices skyrocketing.
And the Albanese Labor Government is backing them in.
That’s why the Greens are calling on the government to provide federal funding to States and Territories to make public transport free – for as long as the fuel crisis goes on for.
Free public transport during the fuel crisis would mean:
- Immediate cost-of-living relief for millions of us
- Pressure off fuel supplies and soaring prices
- More fuel available for the regions so Australia’s farmers can keep producing and transporting food and essentials
This is simple, practical and could happen right now – if the Labor Government chooses to act.
Billionaires took us to war, and the rest of us are paying for it.
Albanese chose to back Trump and Netanyahu’s illegal war on the Middle East, so the federal government should pick up the tab.
We know Labor won't take action without Greens and community pressure. Get on board the call for free public transport during this fuel crisis now.
WHO PAYS?
Big corporations are not paying their fair share of tax.
Australia’s big gas corporations are just some of the big corporate winners of this war, especially now that gas facilities abroad have been targeted.
Australia should put at least a 25% tax on gas exports. These are Australian resources and these gas corporations’ wartime profits should support Australians while we’re all doing it tough.
A gas tax of 25% on exports would bring in about $17 billion a year, and that would go a long way towards the cost of living relief we all desperately need.
