Keep Defence Land in Public Hands

PUBLIC LAND IN PUBLIC HANDS

Labor wants to sell 67 Defence sites to private developers. Demand they stop the sell-off and use these sites to build thousands of public homes instead.

The Labor Government is about to flog off 67 prime Defence sites right across Australia to their developer mates, including prized sites like the Victoria Barracks in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

This is one of the biggest public asset fire sales in our nation's history – and all so they can throw the $1.8 billion from the sales into weapons and defence.

Public land should stay in public hands, especially during a housing crisis that is crushing our community with impossible mortgages, brutal 2-hour commutes, and skyrocketing rents.

Instead of using public land for public housing, Labor instead wants to gift billions to developers. Their promise of a handful of "affordable" units on the proposed developments is mere crumbs,

Priceless built and natural heritage sites will be concreted over forever – beautiful Victorian-era barracks with irreplaceable parkland, replaced by luxury apartments that only the wealthy can afford.

Once these sites are sold, we can never get them back.

That's why the Greens are demanding that the Labor Government:

  • Stop the sell-off and keep these Defence sites in public hands.
  • Use these sites instead to build thousands of new public homes across the country – owned forever by the public.
  • Protect our heritage and parklands to provide green space for communities, not concrete jungles for profit.

This isn't just bad policy from Labor – it's a historic betrayal that will haunt generations.
