PROTECT OUR LGBTIQA+ COMMUNITY

Our laws should protect all of us equally, not privilege religion over all other human rights.

By signing this, you will also hear from us about our LGBTIQA+ and social justice campaigns from time to time.

Tell Albanese: Our discrimination laws should protect all of us equally

Right now in Australia, you can lose your job for being LGBTIQA+, a single mum, or for terminating a pregnancy because of a carve out religious-run institutions enjoy in the sex discrimination act.

People of faith should be free to practice their religion without fear of harm or prejudice and people from all protected groups should have the right to feel secure in their employment, without fear of being fired for who they are.

This has to change.

Labor needs to work with the Greens to fix our outdated anti-discrimination laws. Despite repeated requests to see their bill, Labor have only shown it to Peter Dutton's Liberals.

Our laws should protect all of us equally. But without progressive changes, the Labor government’s inaction will cement an unfair status quo.

Discrimination harms everyone and all Australians should have protection under the law.

The LGBTIQA+ community has always been subjected to hate, threats and extremism. We are experiencing a storm of social media abuse and harmful national debate about our right to simply exist and live with equality, respect and safety.

Earlier this year, the Australian Law Reform Commission released their groundbreaking report into discrimination in religious schools with a clear roadmap to fixing Australia's outdated anti-discrimination laws.

The Greens were clear from day one that we want to work with Labor and the crossbench to deliver these important reforms as soon as possible.

We have witnessed a national hate tour and neo-Nazi rally against trans and gender-diverse Australians, and attacks and threats of violence against Drag Story Times and artistry.

The Greens will always fight to ensure everyone is free from discrimination no matter where they live and work.

Tell the government to show us the bill so we can work together to end discrimination.
