It's time to pay young workers the super they've earned.
Right now, most Australians under 18 miss out on superannuation, even when they're doing the same work as older employees.
Because of outdated rules, many workers under 18 only receive super if they work more than 30 hours a week for the same employer. As most young people have to balance work with school, study, or other commitments, it's rare for them to be able to meet this threshold.
That means thousands of young workers are being held back financially – before they've even had a chance to get ahead.
The Greens believe young workers should receive the same financial rights as everyone else - if you earn a wage, you should earn super.
Every worker's labour has value and every hour worked should help build your future.
That's why we're working to change the law to secure super for under 18s. The Greens have a plan to:
- Extend the superannuation guarantee to all under 18s
- Ensure people of all ages are paid contributions regardless of how many hours they work
Superannuation works best when contributions start early; it's essential that young workers receive super on every dollar earned from the moment they start work.

In July 2026, the Greens introduced a partial disallowance to Labor's laws to ensure all workers under 18 were finally paid superannuation, but Labor voted against it. Their deliberate decision will deny 515,000 young workers an estimated $405 million in super contributions in 2025-2026 alone.
The Greens will continue to fight for young workers. We will push Labor to remove these restrictions to ensure that every young person is paid super on every dollar they earn.
