South Australians have been devastated over the last few months to see dead marine life washing up on our shores.
Now, scientists and experts from across the state are pointing to the fact that this tragic marine event is being caused by climate change.
Our oceans have suffered through an extreme marine heatwave that has seen temperatures reach an average of 2.5°C warmer than usual. This has created the perfect conditions for the bloom to spread, and has even seen it venture into the Northern lagoon of the Coorong which we know is already an incredibly fragile ecosystem.
Our leaders are failing to protect nature and our iconic wildlife as dolphins, sea lions and sharks all wash up on our pristine beaches.
The state’s leaders say we can’t do anything, but we know that we need real and urgent climate action, including a climate trigger: Ensuring all fossil fuel projects are assessed for their pollution impact to safeguard our future.
Join our call for an inquiry into the Algae Bloom to help ensure our climate and environment get the protection they need to safeguard their future.
