Our response to the Afghan War Crimes Inquiry

After two decades of being involved in US wars in the Middle East, billions of dollars of public funds wasted and horrific allegations of war crimes it’s time to take action to make sure that this never happens again.

These war crimes, and the culture that facilitated them, must be fully investigated, senior members of Defence must be held to account, and the major parties must be made responsible for their role in starting and continuing these conflicts.

In response, the Australian Greens are pushing for three things right now:

 1. An unreserved apology to the families of the victims of war crimes and the creation of a compensation scheme.

2. A full and transparent investigation of individual perpetrators and military top brass.

3. Passage of a War Powers Act that makes MPs responsible for the decision to send our troops to war.
