Tom Ferrier

Candidate for Lyne

My Commitment to You

  • Fairness: We’ll make big corporations and billionaires pay their fair share to fund essential services like free childcare, healthcare, and education.

  • Equity: We’ll stand up for everyone ensuring that there is real change for women and marginalised identities and communities in our electorate and beyond, so everyone can thrive.

  • Action: We’ll tackle the issues that matter most to you—protecting you, your loved ones, and environments we live and work in.

Lyne deserves a voice that fights for you and puts people first, not profits. Vote 1 for Tom Ferrier, Greens Candidate for Lyne and together, we can build a fairer future for Lyne.

How We're Going to Pay for It

In a wealthy country like Australia, we should have world-class public health, education, and affordable housing.

Under both major parties, you’re paying too much, while 1 in 3 big corporations pay no tax. Our plan takes on the big corporations and makes them pay their fair share.

We’d use it to fund world-class public health and education and genuinely tackle the housing, climate and environment crisis.

Our plan is ambitious and achievable – it’s fully costed by the Independent Parliamentary Budget Office.

Lyne has been overlooked by the major parties for far too long while our community continues to face rising living costsa healthcare system that’s out of reach physically and financially, and the escalating impacts of climate change—more frequent fires, floods, and extreme weatherIt’s time for change.

Tom Ferrier is leading for climate actionfree and local healthcare, and affordable living. Funded by taxing billionaires, corporations, generate $700 million in annual federal revenue for recreational cannabis and reducing the $11b annual subsidies to coal & gas corporations.

Standing against Alison Penfold (Nationals) & Jeremy Miller (Independent), Tom champions the environment, unions, expand Medicarehousing affordability, and justice for Aboriginal and First Nationswomenpeople with disability and other marginalised identifies and communities.

Our Priorities for Lyne

Priority One: Lower the Cost of Living and Tackle Inequalities

1 in 3 corporations pay no tax, with you and me having to foot the bill. It's frustrating to not feel our tax dollars at work.

We want to tax big corporations and billionaires, legalise and tax recreational use of cannabis and stop the $11billion in annual subsidies to coal & gas corporations to fund essential changes.

This includes freezing rents, capping unfair increases, and wiping over $248m of Lyne student debt (ABS, 2024) to immediately ease financial pressures.

We’ll make childcare and primary, secondary education free, saving families thousands while investing in public schools for fairer outcomes for future generations.

“Australians are hard hit by housing costs, whether mortgage or rent,” said Mr. Ferrier. “First home buyers are locked out of the housing market by a system that favours investors. The Greens will cap rents and phase out negative gearing and capital gains concessions. The Greens pressure has recently secured an additional $3 billion in funding for public and community housing.” - Tom Ferrier

Rent and mortgages are crushing families in Lyne – we’ll freeze rents, cap unfair increases and close tax handouts to big property investors. The Greens will always fight for better pay, safer workplaces, and stronger unions. By increasing JobSeeker above the poverty line, making price gouging illegal, justice and safety for womenpeople with disabilityLGBTQIA+ rights and continue leading the national conversation for First Nations truth, treaty and justice we’ll ensure no one is left behind. It’s time to prioritise people over profits, ensuring your taxes fund local schools, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Together, we can build a fairer, more affordable future for Lyne.

Priority Two: Free Healthcare that is Accessible, Affordable, and Inclusive

Lyne has some of the highest rates of chronic pain (Deloitte, 2018) and stroke (Stroke Foundation, 2023) in the country, while essential services like dental, mental health, reproductive care and even GPs remain out of reach for many. We want to invest in local care, protect the NDIS and expand Medicare to ensure healthcare for all.

“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. From aged care to dental and mental health, every Australian deserves quality care. The Greens will restore free GP visits, include dental care in Medicare, and ensure older Australians receive affordable, high-quality aged care—whether at home or in residential facilities. We believe healthcare should always be provided on a not-for-profit basis.” – Tom Ferrier

The Greens will fight to restore free GP visits, expand Medicare to include dental and mental health, and ensure widespread bulk billing. We'll invest in affordable local care for older Australians and people with disabilities, protect the NDIS, trauma-informed support for domestic violence survivors, enable safe staffing ratios and worker protections for quality care before profits. We want guaranteed free reproductive services in all public hospitals and invest in women's health research and services.

Priority Three: Protect our Environment and Prepare for Climate Impacts

With 10,000 private properties in Lyne predicted to be uninsurable by 2030 (Climate Council, 2022), an urgent response is needed. With direct policies to make climate insurance cheaper, we would fund disaster readinesstake climate action through greater renewal energy investment, and strengthen environmental protections. We are the only party to plan and budget for a just transition for workers and communities. This will safeguard our future.

“We must properly resource our emergency services to handle fires and floods, and strengthen environmental laws…Study after study has shown the cheapest and most efficient energy comes from renewables, especially solar and wind. It makes sense to increase subsidies for renewables like rooftop solar to bring household power bills down – paid for by ending subsidies for fossil fuel corporations and billionaires.”  - Tom Ferrier

Lyne has the growing threats of climate change, with 10,000 of private properties at risk of being uninsurable by 2030 due to climate impacts like floods and bushfires (Climate Council, 2022). The Greens will take urgent action to safeguard your homes and investments by tackling climate change, investing in affordable renewable energy like solar and wind, and funding disaster preparedness.

Renewable energy is not only the cheapest and most efficient option but also key to lowering power bills and protecting Lyne’s natural beauty for future generations. Instead of wasting taxpayer dollars on more costly, nuclear projects that won’t generate energy for 10-15 years, we’ll redirect subsidies from fossil fuel billionaires to renewables, creating sustainable jobs and industries while protecting our environment and threatened species. Instead of lining the pockets of billionaires and big corporations with expensive nuclear experiments, let’s act now to secure a cleaner, safer, and more affordable future for Lyne.

“The Greens are the only party that has costed a just transition for timber workers and the creation of 100 percent sustainable plantations...It's smarter financially to save our native forests for eco-tourism and future generations...the native forest logging industry is losing millions of dollars each year."

Tom is a member of Port Macquarie Hastings Greens, and a long standing Greens member for the past 30 years. Most of my career has been as a teacher of Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management at both secondary and tertiary levels. I have hold a Master of Environmental Management. I stood on the Greens team for PMHC Council in 2013, and was part of the team that saw Greens Councillor Lauren Edward’s successful re-election to PMH Council in 2024.

"As a local grandparent, I am worried about the environmental legacy to my children and grandchildren, and others too...We are all dependant on a healthy natural environment and it's time we got serious about preserving what's left of our native forests and the wildlife that depends on them. As well our native forests store carbon and protect our water quality for future generations."

Tom's main passion is love of the natural environment and he has been a long-term active member of Landcare working groups and committees, in Victoria, Nth NSW and locally and a member of Climate Change Australia.

"I'm proud to be representing a party that's prioritising the end of native forest logging in this Federal election. Ending decades of industrial logging in the Lyne forests will give endangered animals such as the Koala and Greater Glider a fighting chance."
