Revelations that an Adani subsidiary's own lawyer is accusing it of fraud is yet another warning that this company should not be trusted with the Great Barrier Reef.
Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and mining spokesperson, said:
"Although the company denies any wrongdoing, a court order has revealed allegations of illegal land purchases and submitting fraudulent documents to secure a power-purchase agreement in India.
"This is the same group of companies that has separately been accused of tax avoidance and has a track record of non-compliance with environmental conditions in India, polluting waterways which communities rely on for their livelihoods.
"Adani Mining also exaggerated jobs figures for its Carmichael project before admitting they were overblown in Court.
"This company cannot be trusted, least of all with our Great Barrier Reef, which provides 67 000 jobs, or our precious groundwater.
"Not only is Adani Mining's Carmichael mega mine environmentally risky and a climate disaster, it doesn't make economic sense, with 11 international banks and two domestic banks indicating they won't provide finance.
"With scientists fearing a mass coral bleaching event across the Reef in coming weeks, the state and federal governments must overturn their approvals of this global warming nightmare that would further cook the Reef.
"The federal Liberal Government and the state Labor Government must wake up to the economic reality and provide a transition plan to job-rich clean energy for coal workers who are already losing their jobs," Senator Waters said.
