Reaffirming Support for the Trans Community
20 April 2022
The Queensland Greens categorically reaffirms our support for the trans, gender-diverse, and non-binary communities. Trans rights are non-negotiable, and we do not tolerate transphobia or transmisogyny in the Queensland Greens.
To the trans community, we see you, we value you, and we will always stand beside you.
The Queensland Greens will fight for trans peoples’ rights to live free from discrimination, to have autonomy over their bodies, and to have barrier-free access to comprehensive health services. We recognise that trans people are disproportionately victims of violence and abuse, leading to adverse mental health outcomes and higher rates of suicide, and we will continue to pursue policy changes to ensure appropriate support for individuals, and invest in programs to combat transphobia.
The Queensland Greens have a process for dealing with members who cause harm. That process is thorough, consults with people who have been harmed, and affords natural justice. Anti-trans rhetoric from any Queensland Greens spokesperson, elected representative or official will not be tolerated.
