Environment, climate change and the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook

2015-12-15

Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens climate change and environment spokesperson, comments on the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook:
"The Liberal Government is cutting climate and environment programs but keeping the spurious Wind Farm Commissioner.
"The outlook confirms the Renewable Energy Agency and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, which makes money for taxpayers, are still on the chopping block, despite the government's talk about innovation.
"In 2014, the Liberal Government cut $484 million from the exceptionally successful Landcare program to fund the Green Army, but now they're cutting out $317 million of that money.
"The outlook neglects to mention that the $1 billion pledged for developing countries to deal with global warming is being drained out of the foreign aid budget, which was already at a record low.
"The government is wasting $2 million over four years on the completely unnecessary Wind Farm Commissioner, while being six months overdue on appointing a Sex Discrimination Commissioner," Senator Waters said.
