Government climate body feels pressure to withhold recommendation for carbon pricing until after the election

The Australian Greens are calling for the release of a Climate Change Authority report recommending a carbon price, which the Authority decided to delay until after the election - a decision the Minister's Office said made it 'very happy'.
"Voters deserve to know if the Turnbull Government is silencing its own expert climate body to save face before the election," said Greens Leader Richard Di Natale.
"The CCA's call for a carbon price shows the Turnbull/Abbott policy of paying big polluters up for the sham that it is.
"Serious questions need to be answered as to why the Climate Change Authority, which has a government-appointed board, decided to withhold this critical report until after the election," Senator Di Natale said.
Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, said:
"It's crucial Australians have this information before the election, which falls at a tipping point for Australia to save our very way of life by embracing the clean energy revolution to create jobs and tackle global warming.
"Australians know the big parties are failing to tackle global warming - both have banked on ripping $1 billion out of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and both are approving new coal mines.
"We Greens have the courage and vision to act on global warming to save our Great Barrier Reef and deliver thousands of clean energy jobs," Senator Waters said.
