The Greens have called for laws to restore land clearing controls in Queensland to be passed by the state Parliament as quickly as possible.
Greens spokesperson Andrew Bartlett says his party welcomes the state government's move to bring legislation into Parliament to address the current crisis of extreme levels of land clearing.
"Labor should have acted much more quickly when they came into government to stop the damage now being done, but it is very welcome that action is now occurring," Mr Bartlett said.
"There has been a massive surge in land clearing in the few years since the Liberal National Party government removed land clearing controls.
"The extent of vegetation removal and habitat destruction is at crisis levels in Queensland, with major impacts on wildlife and biodiversity, as well as causing a significant rise in greenhouse emissions.
"The issues are well known and the environmental damage, some of it irreversible, will continue every extra day that the Parliament delays acting on this."
