The Queensland Greens have called on the state government to immediately reject calls by a Parliamentary Committee to target and penalise Uber drivers.
Greens spokesperson Andrew Bartlett said "drivers should not be the meat in the sandwich in any dispute between the taxi industry and the Uber corporation."
"Certainty for drivers, consumers and industries will come through regulation, not through punishing the powerless people in this situation."
"Uber drivers clearly are popular with a significant section of the public and value the chance to earn some extra income.  They are already having challenges ensuring fair treatment from Uber and the last thing they should be subjected to is turbo charged penalising from government."
"The Greens repeat our past calls for the Queensland government to follow up on the current Personalised Transport Services Review as quickly as possible, ideally by moving to regulate Uber and similar services in a manner similar to what now applies in New South Wales and the ACT".
