The Queensland Greens have welcomed the Palaszczuk Government's announcement aimed at expunging historic convictions for gay sex.

Greens spokesperson Andrew Bartlett said this move is an important part of recognising and redressing a major injustice.

"As the Attorney-General has said, this action is long overdue. The state Law Reform Commission needs to determine as quickly as possible the best way to make this a reality.

"There is still much to do to address social and systemic discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex people in Queensland.

"This move by the state government is a valuable step in the right direction. The Greens will do all we can to keep the pressure on for effective action and reform in this area."
