Most Australians agree with the Greens against taxpayer handouts for big fossil fuel companies

Most Australians (58.9%) believe the government spends too much on fossil fuel subsidies, according to a national ReachTEL poll out today, and the Australian Greens firmly agree with them.
Qld Senator Larissa Waters, Australian Greens Deputy Leader and climate change spokesperson, said:
"The Government is spending billions of dollar a year in tax breaks and cheap fuel for big mining companies, while leaving our health and education systems starved of funding.
"It's encouraging that the majority of Australians back the Greens position calling for an end taxpayer subsidies for dirty energy because they know clean energy is the future.
"The government's answer to the climate crisis that is currently cooking our Reef is to keep Tony Abbott's woeful climate policies and to give away billions to mining companies to make the problem even more diabolical.
"The Liberal and Labor parties' support for fossil fuel subsidies is drastically out of touch with the community and the science.
"The poll showed that the most popular way to raise revenue in this year's budget was to end fossil fuel subsidies and that most people thought the money should go to health or clean energy," Senator Waters said.
