Senator Andrew Bartlett announced as the Greens candidate for Brisbane

The Queensland Greens are today announcing Senator Andrew Bartlett as the party's candidate for the seat of Brisbane at the next federal election.

“The Queensland Greens achieved their highest state vote on record, won their first state seat and a 12 percent swing against the sitting Labor Deputy Premier in the state election in 2017”, says Senator Bartlett.

“In the Brisbane seats of McConnel and Greenslopes we achieved a 7 percent swing.

“My lower house campaign will build on that momentum and make sure we keep our Senate seat.

“My existing profile, experience and current position will help build the party's vote in what is our strongest federal seat."

The Queensland Greens candidate for Brisbane at the 2016 election, Kirsten Lovejoy, said she was delighted the party will run such a genuine, dedicated candidate.

“I am so pleased, Andrew is utterly committed to cleaning up politics so that the community has a real say, and I look forward to supporting him during the campaign.”

"Having lived and been an advocate in the area for so long, I know the Greens are in a great spot to give the seat of Brisbane a red hot go."

The seat of Brisbane is held by the Liberal National Party by a margin of around 6 percent. Senator Bartlett, who was the Greens candidate for the seat in 2010, said while it had been a traditional Labor seat prior to then, the Greens vote is growing and the party is well placed to replace Labor as the main opposition to the LNP.

"The people of Brisbane deserve better than tired old policies that only deliver inequality, falling wages, less secure jobs and housing, and growing environmental devastation.

“They deserve better than a rigged political system that delivers only for the corporate elite that owns the two major parties and leaves behind the rest of us.

“The Queensland Greens don’t take corporate donations. We will be the only party offering real solutions at the next election”.
