The Tivoli must be saved say the Greens

The Tivoli is not currently heritage protected. However, even if it were listed on the heritage register, its location within the State’s Bowen Hills Priority Development Area switches off the Heritage Act preventing all the normal protections and processes from applying.
"These Priority Development Areas are all about fast-tracking development - who knows how many more places are at risk.
"The question needs to be asked what is Council and the State Government doing to make sure our special places are protected - do they even know whether a heritage survey was undertaken before the Tivoli was zoned as developer fodder?"
The Greens do not accept donations from developers and have been running on a platform of transparency and sustainable growth for the city of Brisbane.
"A city of the future is one that is built on it's past. Brisbane has already lost so many important heritage buildings and this council seems happy to build out the rest.”
Cities around the world are recognising the economic and social value of sustainable development, where building heights are capped at six storeys, heritage is embraced, and green spaces are embedded in planning and development decisions as a priority.
“We have seen what developers did to the Regal Cinemas in the city and what our Councillors are prepared to allow for Customs House. It is depressing.”
"Communities should not have to fight so hard to keep the last vestiges of heritage in Brisbane. It should be a given that our icons and landmark buildings are protected and celebrated. Politicians should be working with communities to respect these buildings not work with developers to ruin them.
"Brisbane is in the grip of a Joe-like development boom and all we keep seeing are our special places disappearing under the weight of it”.
"I will not stand by and let anything happen to this important Brisbane venue!”
Ms Lovejoy is calling on the community to email their demand for heritage protection to council candidates and Minister for Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning, Jackie Trad.
