Daylight Saving

(Adopted October 2014)

Principles

The Queensland Greens believe that:

1. A trial of daylight saving in Queensland should be followed by a referendum asking the people of Queensland whether they support the permanent adoption of an annual daylight saving period in Queensland.

Aims

The Queensland Greens will:

1. Introduce legislation to State Parliament to provide for a two year trial of daylight saving in Queensland;

2. Ensure that during and following the trial, information is compiled and made publicly available estimating the positive or negative impacts of daylight saving in Queensland on factors such as income and costs for small and large businesses, road accidents and electricity consumption.

3. Ensure that following the two year trial, all Queenslanders will have the opportunity to vote in a referendum on whether or not to permanently adopt daylight saving in Queensland for the same time period each year as that adopted by the state of New South Wales.
