Our policies for the future of Yarra City Council
Tackle the cost of living crisis
Tackle the cost of living crisis by backing genuinely affordable housing for renters and first home buyers, providing high quality council services and subsidising those most in need.
Lead local climate action
Lead local climate action by electrifying council buildings, supporting the community to transition to zero-carbon and driving the circular economy
More parks and greenery
Create more public spaces, parks and playgrounds, and plant more trees.
Support public and affordable housing
Stop Labor’s demolition of public housing, and push for more quality public housing in our neighbourhoods. Promote well-designed, zero-carbon medium-density communities. Transform investment properties into homes for people to live in by cracking down on investors buying up homes just for Airbnb
Better streets for walking, cycling and outdoor dining
Create better streets for people with wider footpaths, safe bike lanes, bike hoops, e-scooter parking bays and more outdoor dining.
Support and celebrate arts and culture
Champion local and emerging arts with grant opportunities and affordable creative spaces. Increase accessibility to our incredible art scene and support our art and music venues to thrive. Create an ambitious, diverse and inclusive public art program.
Revitalise our high streets and protect live music
Strengthen the local economy by supporting live music venues and enhancing support for small businesses.

The Yarra Branch of the Australian Greens Victoria acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin nation as the custodians of the land now known as Yarra. We pay deepest respects to elders past, present and emerging. We also acknowledge the many other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have lived, worked and contributed to the cultural and environmental heritage of Yarra. We acknowledge the strength and resilience of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, whose sovereignty was never ceded and who retain their strong connections to family, clan and country despite the impacts of European invasion. The Yarra Greens are strongly committed to reconciliation and justice in partnership with the Aboriginal community in Yarra, including supporting the State Treaty process.
