This is a chance to advance justice and equality – to step towards a future where First Nations people are respected, listened to and have the power to make decisions about their lives.

This is an opportunity to demand a future where no matter who we are, we are all treated equally, and First Nations people are no longer left behind.

As the first political party to endorse the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full, the Greens believe that the first step on that journey is a successful YES referendum.

That starts here, with you and with all of us, in solidarity with the First People of this country – the oldest living culture in the world.

For too long, First Nations people have been ignored when governments have made policies that directly affect their land, families, and communities. This approach has failed.

The Voice is about making sure First Nations people are listened to when the Government creates policies that directly affect them.

First Nations self-determination will lead to better outcomes in housing, health, education and more. When governments listen to First Nations people, and make decisions based on their local knowledge, the results will be better.

A strong YES result could kick off a decade of change for First Nations people.

If an overwhelming majority of people say YES in the upcoming referendum, then governments are more likely to enact the policies that First Nations people have been fighting for for decades.

We will have the momentum for real and practical change when it comes to issues like healthcare, employment, protecting Country, justice and housing.

Truth, Treaty, Voice

The Greens want to acknowledge the generations of tireless advocacy and First Nations rights activism that got us to this point in our shared journey.

The Voice is part of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which was written by First Nations people after consultation within communities across the country. The Statement has three asks: Truth, Treaty and Voice. It is an invitation to all Australian people, to bring about the change First Nations people want to see – a better, fairer future for all of us.

The Greens are fighting for transformative change including for Truth-telling, Treaty, protecting Country, justice and stopping deaths in custody.

This fight doesn’t start or end with a successful referendum, but we cannot let this referendum fail. If we fail, we go backwards.

We know that pressure works. The Greens secured money in the last budget for a Makarrata Commission - and we will be keeping the pressure on to advance Truth and Treaty following the vote.
