2024 GREENS SUPPORTER SURVEY: THE RESULTS ARE IN!

By Lawrence De Pellegrin, National Engagement Coordinator

This year, our Greens National Supporter Survey was designed to give our team a better idea of what is top of mind for our supporters in the lead up to the next Federal election. Your input will be central to our campaign in the months ahead.

Our team is incredibly thankful to the over 5,000 supporters that completed this year’s National Supporter Survey. It was so valuable to read your concerns, hopes and aspirations for the future of politics in this country in your own words.

This year’s results reflect really clearly the context that we currently find ourselves in.

Our supporters indicate they are experiencing the most acute cost of living crisis this country has seen in living memory, with millions struggling to afford the bare essentials.

Meanwhile, the climate crisis continues to spiral out of control. We have a Labor Government elected on a promise of change that has instead since approved more than a staggering 25 new coal and gas projects, which will only pour more fuel on the fire while trashing our precious environment for future generations.

Here are some highlights we’ve pulled from the survey that paint a picture of what’s important to you:

TOPLINE RESULTS

We asked “What concerns you most at the moment?” The top answers in order of priority were:

  1. Climate change
  2. The environment
  3. The cost of living
  4. Housing
  5. Health
  6. Wars and international conflict
  7. Integrity
  8. Education
  9. First Nations issues
  10. Rents

Key takeaway

Your responses show us that you continue to care deeply about the climate and environment crisis, but that a growing number of you are becoming concerned about the cost of everything going up - mainly housing and healthcare. Many of you are also strongly concerned and driven to action by the ongoing genocide in Gaza. We’ll continue to centre these campaigns in our advocacy.

We asked “What do you think concerns other people most?” The top answers in order of priority were:

  1. The cost of living
  2. Housing
  3. Rents
  4. Economic management
  5. Health
  6. Climate change
  7. Education
  8. Childcare
  9. Wars and international conflict
  10. The environment

Key takeaway

Our supporters understand that millions in this country are doing it really tough at the moment, from the cost of rent and mortgages, to the weekly grocery shop and seeing the doctor.

We’ll ensure that we put our cost of living package in front of as many voters as possible this election so they know that we are on their side. Cheaper mortgages, a rent freeze, making it free to see the GP and wiping student debt – all paid for by making big corporations pay their fair share of tax.

We asked “What approach should we take to the next election?” The top answers in order of priority were:

  1. Now is the moment for growth, let’s try to win another 2+ Lower House seats to put us into balance of power on current numbers.
  2. We should focus on retaining our existing Senate and Lower House seats.
  3. Go for as many Lower House seats as we can around the country, towards one day forming a Greens Government.

Key takeaway

Your responses show that you back our approach of aiming to win more seats over time to build strength in the Lower House and gain the balance of power. That will allow us to keep out Dutton and push Labor to deliver real action on the climate and cost of living challenges we face. We’re laser-focused on building the biggest-ever ground campaign in our target seats this election to make this dream a reality.

We asked “Why did you first want to get involved with the Greens?” You told us:

Results of question "Why did you first want to get involved with the Greens?"

Key takeaway

Our supporters come from a diverse range of backgrounds, but we all share a drive and commitment to take on the big issues – your comments show you’re motivated by the climate crisis, ending poverty and ensuring everyone has fair access to housing, education and healthcare. Just like you, we are committed to fighting for a future that’s good for all of us.

We asked “What gives you hope?” You told us:

Word cloud summary of responses to the question "What gives you hope?"

Key takeaway

So many of you told us that action on climate change, the enthusiasm of young people, and seeing more people wake up to the reality of the major parties is giving you hope. And we’re right there with you: it’s only when we have hope for the future that our arm will be strengthened to make it happen.

A big thank you from our team for your time and generosity in completing our National Supporter Survey. Your insights will go a long way to helping us stay the course and build the biggest election campaign we’ve ever run to keep the Liberals out and push for better progressive outcomes on climate, housing and more.

You are at the core of all that we do. Thank you for being with us!

Want to be ready to make an impact? Now is the perfect time to give us an early donation or sign up to volunteer so we’re ready to go as soon as the election is called early next year.
