Swans now glide peacefully across Bibra Lake, as a result of the WA state election which saw construction on nearby Roe 8 abandoned. Although WA Greens doubled their Legislative Assembly representation in that election, all was not rosy. We lost Lynn MacLaren, a long-time defender of Bibra Lake and surrounds – and an article herein touches upon her considerable achievements during her 8 years in parliament. We also report on some of the good times leading up to that election. A detailed dissection of the election outcome will be provided by Chilla Bulbeck in the June Green Issue. Another disappointment, after Labor had taken office, was their announcement that uranium mining in WA could proceed, if/when all approvals are given. This induced long-time anti-U campaigner Judy Blyth to give her opinion on the matter.
But expanding to the global scene, Chris Johansen refreshes his memory of what a sustainable world should be. Vivienne Glance gives us an insight into the recently held, and patently uplifting, Global Greens Congress held in Liverpool, UK. However, Jean Ibbotson brings us back to earth, the real earth, by reminding us of the precarious state we are in exacerbated by the absence of credible leadership.
And, we have reports on what our elected reps have been up to over the last two months or so.
