What are trees?
I do not know. I expect they are alien.
They are killed by the sky.
Thats why there are not
so many of them.
Can we make more trees when we want to?
I do not know. They come out of whatever it is
under the ground. But the sky makes them sick.
Then we must just cut them down.
Could trees be little like me?
Trees prefer to be big.
They do not like competing with machines.
They just have to be big, or the gardener
will get them with his enormous lawnmower.
Theres no fight in them.
Why arent trees strong?
Because they like to be torn
out by the roots. That is natural,
That is what used to happen,
in olden days, in storms.
It is how nature protects them from the sky.
Does it hurt a tree, to be torn?
No, they are alien. They do not have
feelings or a nervous system.
They are mostly rock and water.
If they had feelings, would their feelings matter?
Not when they are in the way
and dont forget, it is better to put them out
of the misery of being killed by the sky.
Why does the sky want to hurt trees?
The sky cant help it. Trees are supposed
to stay under the ground. It is good
for them. Then we can protect them
with roads and buildings.
But then we would never see trees.
People prefer looking at concrete.
Could we paint the trees pink and purple?
I guess that would tidy things up a bit, darling.
