The Senate by-election has finally reached its zenith and we are so thrilled that Scott Ludlam will keep his place in the Senate. Over the past few months, Greens have knocked on more than 20,000 doors and made more than 50,000 calls (real person-to-person ones, not robo-calls), performed in flash mobs, conducted public meetings and filled social media with our messages - all as part of an outstanding grass-roots campaign in WA. The by-election campaign has shown us what is possible when MPs, parliamentary and party staff, office bearers and volunteers all work together as a united force to reach our common goal — more votes and more parliamentary seats for the Australian Greens.
The challenge for us now is to take what we've learned from the Greens WA experience to grow our support base and our vote all around this nation. We are energised by this turnaround in our electoral fortunes and must keep up this momentum to ensure that the political pendulum keeps swinging our way. With National Council immediately afterwards, we enjoyed the discussions to be had there on constitutional review and the core business of our party. It was great to see many old and new faces in Melbourne to catch up, celebrate and look together at how we can shape the future of Australia as a renewable-energy based economy that puts a socially just society at the centre of all policies.
This is the last Notes from National in its present form. We have explored many options as to the best way to keep a strong line of communication to all members of the party and decided that now is the time for change. Stay tuned in the near future for a re-worked platform but until then it is good bye and thank you for your readership.
