one week to go, lets finish the job.

By Adam Bandt, Leader of the Australian Greens

It’s finally here. Voting has begun around the country.

Months of doorknocking, phone banking and campaigning have all led to these last 6 days.

This time next week, we’ll know the results of the election.

If all goes well, we will be in a strong position to keep Peter Dutton out, and push a minority Labor government to stop new coal and gas, put dental into Medicare and get real action on the housing crisis.

Over the last few years, so many people have stood up and fought hard for our party, to push Labor to go further and faster on the issues which matter.

I’ve been around the country over the last month and I have been so impressed and inspired by the enthusiasm from our movement and the public on our positive plan for our future.

Thank you for all you’ve done to get us this far. We’re a party who rely on our volunteers and members like you, not big corporate donations.

It’s thanks to you that we’ve built a party which has been able to achieve as much as we have, and are in a position to achieve so much more.

This election, the Greens are in reach of winning seats across the country. We reckon there’s going to be a minority parliament.

Now, in this country, a third of people vote for either Labor or the Liberals, and a third of the country votes for someone else.

The Greens hold the balance of power in the Senate. After this election, we could hold the balance of power in the Lower House too.

People want real action. They’re sick of the government tinkering around the edges on the issues which matter.

Our party is growing. Our mission is only going to become more important as the climate crisis grows and inequality continues to see more wealth go from working people to billionaires.

And our success is all thanks to people like you. The future is made by those who turn up. Those who hand out how to vote cards at primary schools, those who build the power in their communities, and those who stand up and speak out.

Making change is hard work. But together we’re powerful, and I have so much hope and optimism about the change we are about to achieve.
