Real progress happens when people come together – particularly as we approach the federal election. So we‘re putting the call-out for volunteers from around the country.

I vividly remember the first time I volunteered with the Greens.

In fact, it was the first day we existed as a party in Victoria. I’d been involved a huge amount up to then as we did all the planning and preparation to form the party, but it wasn’t volunteering with the Greens until we actually existed!

We made the decision to form the party at a meeting in Melbourne in November 1992. My memories of that day were absolute joy and excitement that the Greens in Victoria was up and running – and relief that the meeting actually happened.

On the day we were set to meet, there had been a misunderstanding about picking up the key to the community centre, so a plan B was quickly formed and we held the meeting under a tree! Which in the end felt very apt.

Twenty six years on, the Greens continue to grow like that tree. Us succeeding in spite of obstacles is more important than ever.

The push towards the next federal election is really heating up, with Morrison and Shorten kicking off the new year furiously trying to out-pork-barrel each other.

At the Greens, we do things differently. This means that while the Liberal and Labor parties host exclusive fundraising dinners for their mates in big business, we’re focused on running our biggest national grassroots campaign ever this election.

Here’s how you can help: we’re putting the call-out for volunteers from around the country to be part of our 2019 federal election team.

If you’ve volunteered before and know what it’s all about, you can sign up here.

If you’ve never volunteered but you’re thinking of getting involved and wondering what it’s like, check out these stories from some of our current volunteers to find out more.

We know it’s our incredible volunteers who make the difference during elections and, this time, we’re going to need more people on the streets and in our campaign offices than ever. So how about it – will you join us? You can sign up here today.

If I’ve learnt one thing since we formed this party all those years ago, it’s that progress happens when people come together. For us to succeed at the next election – if we’re going to kick the Libs out and elect more Greens to parliament to hold the major parties to account – we’re going to need everyone to get deeply involved.

That’s why we need people like you to help us.

I hope you can join us.
