Thank you adam, max & stephen

By Your Greens Team

Despite our vote holding strong across the country, we’ve farewelled three incredible MPs: Adam Bandt, Max Chandler-Mather and Stephen Bates. Each made a tremendous contribution to our movement — and with the support of their teams, changed lives and brought hope to politics. Below, we reflect on just some of their powerful moments.

Made history in Melbourne

When Adam Bandt turned Melbourne Green in 2010, it was a historic breakthrough — and the beginning of 15 extraordinary years that saw the Greens grow their representation across the country.

Representing a community of compassionate and progressive people ensured wins not just locally but throughout the country too - like getting dental into Medicare for 3.4 million kids, world leading climate legislation which actually started to cut pollution. Melbourne also led the way with one of the highest votes in the country for marriage equality. Adam and his team over 15 years helped build our movement and bring joy and hope it to politics and we are all so grateful

Helped put renters rights on the map

In just three years, Max Chandler-Mather and his team made the rental crisis impossible to ignore — securing billions for public and community housing, and fighting to make renters’ rights a national political issue.

In Griffith, they served more than 40,000 free school brekkies, built deep local relationships, and brought thousands into the Greens movement. That community remains — and will continue to grow — regardless of the result.

An incredible voice for Brisbane

Stephen Bates went from retail worker to Parliament in 2022 — becoming our youngest MP and a fierce advocate for his community.

With his Brisbane team, Stephen delivered 20,000 meals, ran a free community pantry, helped more than 4,000 people access services like NDIS and housing, and hosted over 100 community events.

From Melbourne to Brisbane to Griffith, this work changed lives and gave people across the country something rare in politics: hope. Our movement has never been about just one person — but we are so thankful for the courage, commitment and compassion Adam, Max and Stephen brought to their work every day. Taking on the political establishment and billionaire-backed interests is never easy. Losing these seats is a setback — but our movement is stronger than ever. And the work continues.
