We live in difficult times but we cannot be silent

There’s an election almost upon us and now is our time to shine.

There is rising authoritarianism. Whether in the rise of Donald Trump, the approach of Peter Dutton, or the growing far right in Europe.

Billionaires are sucking up to Trump in the US and pumping cash into politics here, undermining our democracy and enriching themselves further in the process.

Anti-immigrant rhetoric is rising, at the same time as the climate crisis pushes more and more people out of their homes.

And while people try to keep a roof over their head and to feed themselves, big banks and big corporations are making massive profits.

In potentially the last sitting fortnight of this parliament, Labor and the Liberals stitched up a deal to rig election laws.

The Labor Party, against its own party’s platform, backed mandatory sentencing, even though we know it won’t work.

Labor and the Liberals have given up on improving environment laws, under pressure from big coal and gas corporations.

Our movement, our party and this election have never been more important.

My hope comes from the knowledge that you are by my side and, together, we’re powerful.

I know this could be our biggest election campaign, and our best result, ever.

The election, which could be called in just a couple of weeks, is going to be tough.

We face far-right front groups, like Advance Australia, who are funded by billionaires. The major parties are going to ridicule, ignore and attack us.

But I want you to know that real change is possible.

We need to remain strong. We have a once in a generation opportunity this election and we need to remember that principles, values and convictions are what give us our power.

We are the only party who are working for every person to have a truly affordable home, access to world class healthcare and education and 50c public transport fares.

We believe in fairness, and we will fight to make the big corporations pay their fair share so everyone can have what they need.

We want to protect our environment and stop climate collapse, so we’re fighting to end native forest logging and stop new coal and gas mines.

In 2022, more people than ever before voted for the Greens. We are the third biggest political party in Australia and at this year's election we are in reach of winning more seats across the country.

We have a massive task. This fight is going to need all of us having conversations, sharing content, organising in our communities, and volunteering - we have so much power when we come together and demand better.

We are a movement of people who want a better future for everyone.

I hope to see you on the campaign trail over the coming weeks.
